They Call Them Deathwatch

The Warlock and his attendants departed through the shimmering webway gate as the boxy black dropships roared overhead. Lingering after the lightning victory against the Imperial Fists had been a risk. A risk that was now proving lethal. Leaving behind the bulk of his strike force to defend the webway evacuation, Warlock Káire-Cesh realized he had made a grave error. These were a different kind of Mon Keigh warriors, warriors dedicated to fighting alien foes of all kinds, the feared black-armoured Deathwatch.

The Space Marines threw themselves into the assault against the holding force, advancing on all fronts. Their lascannon-armed Predator tank detonated the War Walker on the left flank and a volley of fire from a large unit wielding plasma guns severely wounded the Wraithlord.

Sensing Disaster, the force commander, Autarch Siahn Uthriel, threw all her forces towards the central objective in an attempt to decapitate the enemy force and buy time for incoming reinforcements. A withering barrage of fusion and bright lance shots destroyed several of the leader’s bodyguard and two more of them fell under a furious sweep of the Wraithlord’s Ghostglaive.

All was for naught however, as the resolute leader withdrew from combat, letting the supporting Dreadnaught demolish the Ulthwé wraith constructs with a staccato of cannon fire and crushing power fist blows. The fight had barely started, but it was all over. The Autarch gave the command to withdraw, confirming a shameful defeat.
